Woodford County, with a population of 25,000, was organized in 1788 and was formed from Fayette County, Virginia. The county seat is Versailles. Woodford County was named for William Woodford, a general in the Revolutionary War. Woodford County is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area.
