Garrard County, Kentucky with a population of just under 17,000, was established in 1796 from parts of Lincoln, Madison and Mercer Counties. Garrard had a settlement of log cabins dating back to 1776. The county was named for the Governor of Kentucky, James Garrard, and the county seat is Lancaster, Kentucky.
